Our Farm Partners

Kombucha is an agricultural product, or at least it is when it’s done right! As vendors at Athens and Atlanta-area farmers markets for the past several years, we’ve formed relationships with our local farmers to source everything from berries to ginger to hibiscus and everything in between. While we can’t yet use 100% locally-grown ingredients, our goal is to purchase more every year from our farmer friends so we can all grow together. Our blueberry lavender kombucha uses Georgia-grown blueberries from Rhonda’s Blueberries, our strawberry meyer lemon kombucha uses Georgia-grown strawberries from a number or different local farms and Georgia-grown Meyer lemons from Pearson farm, and we source ginger and lemongrass used in our ginger lemongrass kombucha from Ladybird Farm.

Sustainability Initiatives

At Figment Kombucha, we view becoming a 1% for the Planet® member as an investment in ethical business and the future of our planet. As a business member of 1% for the Planet, we pledge to give 1% of all sales to environmental causes. Why 1% of sales? For businesses of any size, 1% of sales—not just profits—is a real and substantial commitment. Currently, only 3% of philanthropic giving goes to the environment. Our planet needs more support and the 1% for the Planet network is on a mission to change that.1% for the Planet provides personalized giving strategies and forges powerful partnerships between businesses, individuals and environmental nonprofits to ensure the most impact possible. Business members (and individual members) give directly to environmental causes, meaning there’s no middleman between members and their environmental partners.

Figment Kombucha’s mission is not only to provide our customers with the most delicious beverages possible, but also to do so in a way that creates a net positive result for each customer, our community, our employees and the planet. Among our core values is the simple statement “Do as little harm as possible to the environment”, and we take this very seriously. For every decision we make as a business, we ask ourselves “Is this the best way we can be doing this”? Is this the most sustainable material for this packaging? Where do these ingredients come from? How will this decision affect our community, our partners and our planet? Every decision has many complexities, but the simplest way to communicate our ethos is “Do no harm”. At the end of the day, we want to go home feeling confident that we’ve done our best to add to the world, not take away from it.

Specifically, what does this mean? We package in cans because unfortunately in many communities, glass is a completely unrecyclable material. We use compostable materials for to-go cups, straws, lids and sample cups, and partner with a local compost service (John at Compostia) to ensure that all materials (including spent tea, fruits used for flavoring, paper products and food scraps) are properly processed. We use local ingredients as much as possible to limit carbon emissions due to shipping. We’re always searching for new technologies that will result in more sustainable packaging, partners that will ensure transparency and ethical treatment of workers growing our ingredients, and practices that will keep our community, its people and our planet safe, clean and happy.

Less = More

Our commitment to sustainability doesn’t only result in less waste in the landfill. The less we spend on single-use products and their disposal, the more we can spend on ingredients, our employees and community.

Sustainablility makes sense for our business as well as our environment, and we’re proud to say our commitment to lowering waste has resulted in only 144 lbs. of unrecyclable trash entering our local landfill in 2023 (that’s only 12 lbs. per month!).

2024 Sponsorships

In 2024, we focused our monetary donations on organizations making a difference locally here in Georgia.

Concrete Jungle transforms overlooked and underutilized fruit trees and land into a healthy food source for communities in need. The Southern Environmental Law Center takes on the toughest challenges facing the south to protect our air, water, land, wildlife, and the people who live here. The Athens Farmers Market Exists to provide an economic, educational, and cultural connection between community members, farmers, and artisans here in Athens and surrounding areas. Shell to Shore collects and recycles oyster shells from all around the state of Georgia for use in green-infrastructure projects along the coast to build living shorelines and oyster reefs. Wilderness Volunteers is a nonprofit organization that provides affordable and meaningful volunteer service opportunities that conserve and protect America’s wild lands (this April, we sponsored a trip for trail maintenance and vegetation removal/management on Georgia’s Cumberland Island!).

Core flavors

Our core flavors are available year-round in 12oz cans at select retailers and in our tasting room. Our Strawberry Lemon kombucha is a favorite of people who like their kombucha fruity yet refreshing. Orange Blossom adds the perfumed scent of orange blossoms to our base tea to instantly transport you to a balmy summer evening. Our Blueberry Lavender kombucha uses juice from local Georgia blueberries picked at the height of ripeness for maximum flavor and antioxidant benefits.
